Charis Disaster Response is a new initiative to help Charis Fellowship churches minister to people and areas affected by natural disasters in the United States. CDR has jumped right into helping the areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

How can you help?

Pray: The disaster is a reality. The devastation is done. Pray for the people that have been impacted; that God will reveal himself to them; that God will show us what He is doing in the calamity and how we can join Him in His work.

Donate: If God leads you to assist financially, you can do so here.

Volunteer: See the CDR update message below from Todd Derry, Disaster Response Coordinator :

Port Richey, FL

Local churches are coming in for daily mud out efforts for the local residents. Many homeowners have reached out and asked for assistance to remove the mud and debris from their flooded homes. Many more are expected to follow. Gulfview Grace has been organizing teams to canvas the neighborhoods near their church campus to offer assistance. They are clearing about 15 homes a day which is expected to grow over the next few days as more teams respond.

Teams are welcome to come to the area and join with the effort; however, Gulfview is currently unable to provide food or lodging accommodations so you would need to arrange your own. CDR is in the process of arranging food and lodging for overnight volunteers, we will keep you informed. Meanwhile, please let us know your interest and availability to volunteer in Port Richey by completing the interest form.

North Carolina

Charis Fellowship does not have churches associated with the destruction in North Carolina but a CDR partner through On Mission Network, is responding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the mountains of western North Carolina. They’ve set up feeding units at First Baptist Boone and Biltmore Baptist in Arden. In addition, they’re setting up recovery sites in Boone, Spruce Pine, Hendersonville and Marion. Heavy rains from the storm caused massive flooding that washed out roads, destroyed homes and businesses, and knocked out power and phone service in much of the region.

Volunteers are needed in all areas, which include: feeding; shower and laundry; chain saw teams; tarping roofs; mudding and tearing out homes; and more. You don’t need to be trained to serve with some of these opportunities. Sign up using their online form.
